Debt Management Companies

Debt Management Companies Whilst the country continues to spend at an alarming rate, the increasing rise in debt and financial related issues is starting to become a huge source of concern.

Before you rush for the services of the first major debt management company that you can find, it is absolutely vital that you do some research to check that you signing with a reputable agency and that another solution, like an IVA or consolidated loan, would not be more suitable.

The first question to consider is the fee that each company charge for their services as you need to find someone who will fit within your budget. Do not be misled by the over persuasive sales talk that some debt management companies bombard us with, as the objective of working with a debt advisors is to lighten the load and not add more debt to your already long list of financial worries.

It would also be advisable to check that the company in question does not inform any credit reference agencies that you are seeking their assistance. Although this is unlikely, there are some companies who will pass this information on which will result in difficulties with obtaining credit in the future.

We also recommend checking that your chosen debt management company will offer you some form of guarantee. For example, if for any reason they are unable to work out a suitable arrangement for your outstanding debt, you should not be charged for their services. Do not be sidetracked by companies who offer quick fix solutions to your debt problems or lead you to believe that debt management will not adversely affect your credit record. You need to be prepared for the fact that during the initial stages of debt management your credit score will plummet but in comparison to bankruptcy, this could be a reasonable alternative.

You should also ensure that the company you wish to work with is a member of the Finance Industry Standards Association (FISA) and that it is regulated by the Financial Services Authority as they are responsible for payment protection insurance and are licensed by the Office of Fair Trading.
