Student blackmails Asda for debt help
A student who accumulated over £6,000 worth of debt as a result of losing a poker game, was desperate to repay the amount outstanding after receiving threats from gangsters.
In a fit of despair and faced with bankruptcy, the exasperated gambler wrote a ransom note to the manager of Asda in Walmart, Eastlands requesting £25,000 cash to be placed in a brick planter at a designated address. The letter further went on to say that if the money was not received, a selection of food items which had previously been purchased from the store would be contaminated with poisonous chemicals and placed back on the shelves.
The manager at Asda quickly informed the police of the blackmail note and arranged for the drop to take place. However, the designated address turned out to be the home of the blackmailer and police watched as the student rushed from his front door to retrieve the package. He was arrested immediately.
The bungling blackmailer was granted bail on condition that he stayed away from the Asda store. However, eleven days later he was spotted doing his Christmas shopping in the same store and is now being held in custody.
The mature student denied demanding £25,000 and claimed that he only required £6000 to clear his gambling debt. He went on to say that he was unaware of the contents of the ransom note and agreed to pick up the package for a sum of £6,000 to clear his debt. He claims that he had no idea as to what he would be collecting.
The moral of the story is not to go to your supermarket for debt help but to call a professional debt advice company to discuss your financial worries!
